​However, Shang-Chi’s past is inescapable. After the death of his mother, Ying Li (Fala Chen)—a guardian from the mythical village of Ta Lo—Wenwu brutally trained his son to be a lethal assassin.

​When Shang-Chi and Katy are violently ambushed by the Ten Rings and robbed of a precious jade pendant, Shang-Chi is forced to reveal his true identity and races to Macau to find his estranged sister, Xialing (Meng’er Zhang). He soon discovers that Wenwu has pulled them back into his orbit, believing their deceased mother is alive and trapped in Ta Lo.

​The journey takes Shang-Chi, Xialing, and Katy on a dangerous path to the mythical village, where they are welcomed by their aunt, Jiang Nan (Michelle Yeoh). They must prepare for an inevitable, climactic confrontation with Wenwu and prevent him from unleashing a powerful ancient evil locked behind a mystical gate. The film is celebrated for its spectacular martial arts choreography and its beautiful integration of Chinese mythology into the fabric of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
