The narrative follows Peyoos (Sandeep Pradeep), a naive young man hired to care for the aging Mlaathi Chedathi (Biana Momin) in her secluded estate. The property is a fortress of memories, once the base for her husband Kuriachan (Saurabh Sachdeva), a notorious dog breeder who disappeared without a trace years ago. While the local police and old enemies believe Kuriachan is a fleeing criminal, those who enter the forest quickly realize they are being watched—not just by the residents, but by a pack of highly intelligent, territorial dogs that Kuriachan bred.
Eko is a masterclass in slow-burn suspense. As Peyoos digs into the truth of Kuriachan’s disappearance, the film shifts between timelines, connecting the lush hills of Kerala to a dark history in Malaysia. The “Animal Trilogy” theme is executed brilliantly, using canine instincts as a metaphor for human loyalty and control. By the final act, the hunter becomes the hunted, and the “master” of the house is revealed to be someone entirely unexpected. Technically solid with an atmospheric score by Mujeeb Majeed, the film challenges the audience to question: Who is truly the prisoner, and who is the pet?
