Directed by Phil Johnston (Wreck-It Ralph, Zootopia), this animated feature stars Margo Martindale as the hideous, vengeful Mrs. Credenza S. Twit and Johnny Vegas as the equally disgusting and spiteful Mr. James T. Twit. The couple, who find joy only in playing cruel, ever-escalating pranks on each other (and torturing animals), have failed spectacularly at launching their own twisted amusement park, Twitlandia, in the once-magical town of Triperot.
The film expands on the original book’s premise: when the Twits’ endless nastiness and attempts to seize power threaten to ruin the whole town, two brave children, the orphaned Beesha (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) and Bubsy (Ryan Lopez), team up with the clever, abused Muggle-Wumps family of monkeys (voiced by Natalie Portman and Timothy Simons). The Muggle-Wumps, who the Twits force to stand on their heads all day, become the key to the resistance.
With original songs written by music legend David Byrne (Talking Heads), the movie is a vibrant, anarchic musical adventure where cruelty and empathy are set on a collision course. The children and the animals use their cunning to turn the tables, ultimately administering a poetic, well-deserved dose of their own medicine to the terrible Twits.
